Clean Ups

Typical spring or fall clean ups include raking of leaves and debris from the lawn, raking out beds and borders, and power edging. You can pay us to haul away the debris or if you have a place to dispose of it, you can save yourself a little money that way. Besides making the lawn look nice, a clean up can also help maintain the lawn's health. Leaves and debris left on the lawn can smother the grass, preventing sunlight and air from reaching it so that it cannot adequately prepare for growth in the spring. A basic clean up can be done at a flat rate (contact us for a quote)or for $38.50/hr. You can tailor the work to have us do exactly what you want done.

Core Aeration

Core aeration is performed by a machine which punches small holes throughout the lawn allowing air, water and nutrients to better penetrate the soil. We will generally pass the aerator over the lawn twice in perpendicular rows so as to get better coverage. Core aeration is one of the best regular maintenance activities you can schedule for your lawn. High traffic areas of the lawn benefit greatly from core aeration because it helps prevent soil compaction. Core aeration prevents thatch from building up to unhealthy levels and can even remedy moderate thatch problems. For typical lawns, we recommend core aeration once a year in the spring or fall.

Organic Fertilizing and Weed Control

As the name implies, we use organic products to both feed the lawn with the nutrients it needs and to discourage weeds. Our fertilizing and weed control program includes an application of corn gluten early in the spring to prevent the germination of weed seeds, applications of organic fertilizer and organic spot treatment of weeds each time we mow. Payment is generally spread out over the course of the season. Please click the tab at the top right to see our Organic Program page.

Overseeding

In overseeding, new grass seed is sown over the existing lawn in order to cultivate new healthy grass that will crowd out weeds. The result is a thicker, healthier lawn. Sometimes the lawn is then raked to ensure good soil contact. The best time to overseed is just after aerating. When overseeding is done in conjunction with aerating, the grass seed is able to establish itself in the open spaces created by the areation. Contact us for pricing.

Patching

Patching is the process of seeding small patches where grass has died or become very sparce. Typically, we cut or rake out the dead materials, loosen and amend the soil, sow grass seed, rake the seed lightly to ensure good soil contact, and topdress (cover) the seed with a thin layer of organic material to keep in moisture. Contact us for pricing.

Power Edging

Edging wiht a vertical cutting blade gives the lawn a neat, crisp edge along cement or brick borders. It is not effective along asphalt, because the vertical cutting blade needs a vertical edge to work with. Power edging can be included a clean up and can also be provided throughout the year on request or at regular intervals. Contact us for pricing.

Weeding

Weeding of gardens or beds can be done as needed at $38.50/hr. If you have an ongoing need for weeding, a regularly scheduled weeding program can be set up at a flat rate.
